Khimaira 13

Yesterday night I had another small XP session on my WAR getting about halfway to 63, then today I got up and went to see my chocobo before heading to the gym for a workout. It was Day 29 and time for my chocobo to be all grown up (it's blue, but doesn't look like it in the stable for some reason).

After starting the chocobo whistle quest and coming back from the gym I didn't have much time to do much before heading out for dinner and to get some family pictures done (thank god this is only an event held every 1-3 years). But I had at least an hour on my hands so I finished some cut scene missions and began the trek out to the Khimaira BC.

This silly elf was supposed to replace me? lol!
Whats Michael Jackson doing in FFXI? And what did he do to that little boy!
None the less trying this solo wasn't the best idea. I went as BLM/WHM with a bunch of ethers and died trying this 3 times. For some reason I always got aggro at the start of the fight and had to try and keep the NPC healed while I was in a weakened state. If I try this solo again I'm just going to wait for the NPC to engage the fight before doing anything.

And this weeks random MT goes too...

I'm just getting another party on WAR as we speak, maybe I can update this post with the details after it's all done.

Dynamis-Bastok

Was kind of a slow week with Christmas around the corner and a lot of people gone for the holidays. But a few things to report from this week, starting with a cool little application I made for my Linkshell, it's basically a calculator to easily display the minimum point bid on HNM drops so leaders don't have to do much work before/after a HNM is killed, just a quick look up and copy/paste work. If anyone is interested in taking a look I have it hosted here.

I also began leveling my WAR again on the side and hit level 61 earlier today, I figure the Christmas break away from work would be a good launching point to start this up again. It's not going to be an uber serious endeavour but just something to do when there is no event or merit statics being setup for my NIN.

And finally, tonight was Dynamis for PerfectAtaraxia. We scheduled Bastok knowing that we would probably be low on attendees since it is Christmas weekend after all. I was kind of disappointed that only 3 people posted they would be absent but we only had 31 people show up (one of our lowest attendances to date). Overall it was still a decent run though and had an hour to farm after the boss kill. Took a long time to get the first drop but after it was all said and done we finished the night with 3 BLM, SAM, THF, BRD and 100c drops but under 150 single coins, so I should be getting around 110-120 coins for my upgrade from tonight.

The Black Coffin

Yesterday was patch day, and for the most part it was a great patch, I like the new gear additions for the betterment of the game (even if I never get a Salvage static), and most of the other changes are also cool (looking forward to what they do with the Kraken Club). For the most part I don't think the new gear will be replacements for the best end-game Ninja equipment, they may be equals but not clear winners for replacing anything I already have. The one thing I didn't like about the patch is the cost for each new head piece includes 12x Orichalcum Ingots! These ingots were already in high demand pre-patch and there are not that many ways of obtaining orichalcum in the first place. Ingots have already over doubled in price since the patch now and this is gonna skyrocket the price of Lv74 rings and probably anything else that uses orichalcum.

After the patch I quickly headed over to my chocobo stables in Windurst to checkup on my 3rd try at getting a coloured chocobo. It was Day19 and I was expecting until yellow youth but to my surprise my chocobo had blue tips! Thanks to Moev for the male chocobo that produced this egg. I will try to get a black or red one next.

I then went over to Al'Zahbi next to get ready for the Lv6 besieged that was about to begin. We ended up winning with 3 Generals left and it was surprisingly fun with only about 150 people in the zone and no lag to make it annoying. It was also my first besieged since SE introduced ballista items into the event which made for a great Mijin Gakure with 2600 HP.

And then came the main event, The Black Coffin. I only unlocked this mission about a week ago so I didn't have to wait as long as some might have to get this fight done. Geneviene was shouting in Whitegate that she needed a tank for this fight so I gave her a tell and we quickly went off to the battle. It went very smoothly and we beat it in record time no doubt. Thanks to Geneviene, Apoc, Rigelus, and Drizzit for their part in the smooth execution of this mission. Afterwards I headed back to find that I was invited to the Imperial Whitegate Palace, it's a great looking cut scene.

Towards the end of the night I went back to Windurst to participate in the new Christmas event. It didn't take long to get all three new furniture items and the dream robe, hopefully I will have time to try and get the Dream Robe +1 before the event ends.

World Serpent Slayer

So on Friday night I had my company Christmas party. The outcome wasn't the best for me as after 15-20 or so drinks I ended up blacking out and saying a brief hello to the sidewalk. But after a brief recuperation on Saturday where I ended up taking the night off (missed a Dynamis-Xarcabard run) I was back at it with my LS on Sunday.

We started the day today with a quick Sea farming run in which we killed Ix'DRG for the Deed and headed back to town for a couple hour break before heading up to attempt Jormungand for the first time. I wasn't expecting to lose after being with this group for almost 8 months and knowing the skill we can unleash on events, but I wasn't expecting it to go as well as it did either. It started off with Jamal aggroing Jorm because he was on auto run while answering some one's question in LS or something, but we quickly got our shit together and went at it.

After about 20mins I had to drop from game because someone had come over to my place to purchase a computer I had put up on craigslist. When I came back about 5-10mins later I saw Jorm was called for help on and everyone was in the process of logging to reset hate.

But being the mature LS we are we didn't start arguing or losing our cool like some groups might, we just picked each other up and got ready to go at it again. So about 20-30mins later we started the battle again. This time we did even better and had Jorm down to 30% within just over 1hr. From about 25% we started having a few hiccups as any LS does on their first few times fighting a Wyrm, as everyone knows from about 20% and lower all Wyrms tend to start getting a little aggravated as they begin to realize their impending death. At this point I ate my first death and had to sit out until about the 10% mark when the spam of Horrid Roar was clearing every ones hate and I finally got back in. From 10% and lower it started to get quite messy looking, as hate was starting to fly all over the place and the tanks kept getting Roared, I'm just as surprised as some of the onlookers that a flail didn't occur causing mass destruction. However about 1hr and 45mins into the fight the final blow was delivered and victory was ours.

This was a great fight and I'm proud of my LS killing their first Wyrm on their first try! This was also my first time using NIN/DRK and was a fun and exciting experience. Congratulations to all the members of Element that attended this event and made this kill possible.

A Merit PT?

I know it's amazing. As most know I actually haven't had many merit parties since I started working back in June (only 7 parties total since the end of May). It's not that I don't want to merit, it's just that I'm really picky with my party setups and don't like seeking for longer then 15-20 minutes. Last night however I made an exception, seeing as it was late when I finally logged on and had nothing to do I put my flag up and got an invite almost instantly, the party wasn't ideal and I didn't even get Haste or March/Minuet very often but we did alright, pulling in about 12k XP in about an 1.5hrs XP'ing in Caedarva Mire.

Two players not in the screenshots above are Nicholas (SMN) and Ashlin (BRD). The best part of this party was early on when we instantly killed a fly after pulling it without any planned coordination to do so.

In completely unrelated news, I made 3 Lv74 rings yesterday morning and got 0.1 skill up, so only 0.7 left to go.

Dynamis-Beaucedine

Another successful dynamis run tonight for Perfect Ataraxia. Had a bunch of new guys to get the win since we used our last two Beaucedine runs to farm attestations (mine didn't drop =/). Anyways amidst all the drops tonight we celebrated our 19th full relic equipment set being completed. Congratulations to Rorschach!

During the run I finished up Cami's forum sig.

And just for fun here is a picture of a Xarcabard run a month ago or so in which I went off looking for Relic weapons to tease... this one got the jump on me though (make sure to look above you around this area).

The New Era

Welcome to my new site where I can quickly and painlessly summarize what I'm doing lately in the world of FFXI (I think they call it a blog). For anyone that knows anything about my old site (http://decidence.co.nr) I am sad to say that the time it takes to keep that page updated is far too time consuming. However, in the coming days I will be transferring a lot of that stuff to this page as well as setting up links to other sites that contain the same data I presented so elegantly on my own.

For those that don't know me, I have been playing since about two weeks after PC release in North America. I leveled RNG to 67 and then took a 2-3 month break over the summer of 2004. Starting back again in September I leveled BLM to 75, then NIN to 75 both within 6 months. I decided after this to finish leveling RNG to 75 (after the ranged nerf) by August 2005. I spent about 6-8 months leveling fishing to 100 in 2004 (2nd NA to obtain LuShang [Apr04] and 1st to hit Lv100 [Nov04] on this server) and then took up goldsmithing in early 2005 (I'm Lv99.2 as of this post). I made a lot of money with fishing until SE nerfed the sell back rate of fish and black ink to NPC's.

Some notable achievements in the past year include:
- Getting Koga Feet and Hands to complete NIN relic armour
- Purchasing Speed Belt and Unsho
- Killing Nidhogg and King Behemoth for the first times
- Obtaining Brutal Earring, Boxer's Mantle and Stealth Earring within 3 months solo

- Being one of the first with Pahluwan Seraweels after assault released
- Being one of the first NA's with Walahra Turban only days after ToAU came out
- Crafting a Diamond Shield +1 and Wing Sword +1 in the same week
- Defeating 3 Attestation mobs in a single run with my dynamis shell
- Getting relic shield fragment for our dynamis leader in xarcabard
- Capping NIN merits

My current progress for Kikoku is:
Stage 1: 400/400 Byne Bills
Stage 2: 1600/1600 TWhiteshells

Stage 3: 6100/6100 OBronzepiece [Attestation of Legerity: N]
Stage 4: 2772/10000 Byne Bills [Demoniac Fragment: N]

I think this is good for now, if I can think of anything more I will make changes. Welcome!
